About This Place

El Rincon Del Mofongo is a standout Dominican restaurant nestled in the heart of Port Charlotte, Florida, delivering an authentic taste of the Caribbean right at 2395 S Tamiami Trail. Known for its vibrant and flavorful Dominican cuisine, the restaurant offers a rich culinary journey complete with soulful dishes that evoke the warmth and comfort of home-cooked meals.

Step inside this cozy spot, and you're immediately welcomed by an unpretentious, friendly atmosphere that reminds many locals of cherished Caribbean eateries from their past. This is the kind of place where the food tells a story—bold, heartwarming, and full of tradition.

The menu offers a delightful array of signature dishes that showcase the best of Dominican flavors. A must-try is the Mofongo with Pork Rinds Chicharrón, a perfectly mashed green plantain dish enriched with crispy pork rinds that deliver a delightful crunch and deep, savory satisfaction. For meat lovers, the Carne De Cerdo Frita (fried pork) and Pernil Al Horno (roasted pork) are deeply seasoned and tender, pairing beautifully with the traditional sides of yellow or white rice and red or black beans. The Steak Sandwich features Spanish-cut palomilla steak marinated overnight in sliced onions and freshly shaved garlic, offering a juicy, aromatic bite that stays with you long after the meal.

Sampling the Dominican Sampler or a steaming bowl of Sancocho de Res, a hearty beef stew brimming with rich flavors and comforting textures, is another way to savor the authentic Caribbean palate. For those craving lighter options, Ensalada Cesar de Pollo A la Plached provides a fresh, satisfying balance.

Complement your meal with one of their natural juices such as the tangy and refreshing Tamarindo, sweet Mango, or the exotic and vibrant Passion Fruit juice, each thoughtfully prepared to cleanse the palate and elevate the dining experience.

Patrons consistently praise El Rincon Del Mofongo not only for its large, satisfying portions but also for its genuine flavors and the heartfelt care in every dish. Sheryl Anne Flint fondly recalls the comfortable ambiance evoking Miami memories, though she notes the salad dressing wasn’t for her taste — a minor quibble that hardly dims the overall experience. Mitchell Weiner raves about the chef Juan’s impressive skill, praising the variety, from goat stew to oxtails and the must-have empanadas. Michael Burns highlights the meal’s generous portions and savory richness, making it a place worth returning to time and again. And perhaps most telling is Joaquin Fernandez’s endorsement, emphasizing the restaurant’s authenticity and true Dominican spirit, calling it the "real deal" despite its humble appearance.

If you yearn for a genuine taste of the Dominican Republic in a welcoming, unpretentious setting, El Rincon Del Mofongo is an exceptional choice. Whether you’re diving into the crispy pork chicharrón, savoring the tender roasted pork, or indulging in the comforting mofongo, this restaurant delivers a soulful dining experience that leaves you craving more.

Truly authentic Dominican food (take my word for it, my mom was Dominican and I lived there for 16 years). That said, this place is the definition of a “hole in a wall” restaurant, but it is 100% the real deal. I had the Mofongo with Chicharrón (pork rinds). Check it out!

Starting with the best… Food was amazing! I ordered the roasted pork with yellow rice and red beans. Meat was perfectly seasoned and super tender. Rice texture was perfect and beans were delicious. My boyfriend ordered the Oxtail with white rice and black beans and he loved everything. We also ordered a mofongo and was soft and delicious. The restaurant is dominican but I think they have a puertorrican chef in the back too lol because food taste dominican/puertorrican. The service was excellent and the food arrive fast (15 min). Please note that this is a small restaurant, a little heaven for anyone looking to eat good food????????????????. We are definitely coming back.
